Pitztal - Training and Watching the Solden World Cup Race
October 29th 2013
Training has been going very well.  The conditions have been really good and we have had the added bonus of training in the next lane to Lara Gut and in the presence of the great Aksel Lund Svindal!

As a treat, my parents took me and my sister to Solden to watch the first World Cup race of the season; the women's GS.  Although we can see the race hill in the distance from our own race hill, and it is only in the next valley, Solden is actually a 90/100 minute drive from here.

One of the sponsors gave us Austrian flags to wave as we arrived.  I declined the cheese on toast that was also offered!

The day was really good and the race was exciting to watch.  The weather was so warm and sunny that the snow conditions were deteriorating very quickly and I felt really sorry for the racers who were not in the first few to go out in the first run; it was a very big task for them to match the times that the first racers set. However, Tina Wierather had a fantastic day and finished 5th, from bib 37! It was shocking, though, to see Julia Mancuso only just manage to get into the 2nd run!  Great result for Lara Gut, Kathrin Zettel and Viktoria Rebensburg - I have trained alongside all of them!

We returned to our apartment in the Pitztal on Saturday evening and training resumed on Sunday!
