Katashina Slalom Races
April 15th 2013
It was very nice to go back to where my Japanese experience all began last year and to meet up again with our Japanese hosts, Hiro and his family.

I remember the really big culture shock last year and how self-conscious I felt at being a member of the only white family amongst all the Japanese.  Now, however, I feel very comfortable in Japan and the people could not be nicer or more welcoming.

I had two very good slalom races but, starting with bib 51 on both days,  it was difficult to make the flip with all of the top 30 finishing the first run and warmer temperatures than normal for this time of the year.

On day 2, it was so warm when I was riding the lift up the mountain at 7.30am that I didn't need to wear gloves.  In the first run, only bobs 48 and 61 failed to finish the first run and, although I skiied really well, my starting number was very much against me.
