Austria - October 2012
October 29th 2012
I spent half term training on the Pitztal glacier, in Austria.

When we arrived it was 20 plus degrees with uninterrupted blue skies yet, due to low overnight temperatures, the snow remained firm enough to set gates and get some good training under my belt.

i had Saturday off and so we drove to Solden to watch the first World Cup race of the season - the women's GS.  It was so cold and it began to snow but it was good fun with a DJ and dancers to entertain us in the gap between the 1st and 2nd runs.  The race was won by Tina Maze.  My favourite, Viktoria Rebensburg came out in the second run as did Lindsey Vonn who looked initially as if she had broken her arm when she caught her pole on a gate but was later seen to be OK.  The result of the men's race was amazing with Ted Ligety winning by a staggering 2.75 seconds.  I had an amazing result in that race too coming 1st in GB/Ireland and 15th in the World ... in Fantasy Ski Racer!

The last couple of days training were really hard work.  The snow continued to fall in vast quantities making for very pretty scenery but really hard work on GS skis.  Going back to school for a rest!
